Australia's Hunter Valley is one of the oldest and most iconic wine regions in the world. Located in the state of New South Wales, the Hunter Valley is renowned for its Semillon and Shiraz wines, as well as its picturesque landscape.
James Busby shipped pre-phylloxera European vine cuttings to the Hunter Valley in the 1830s and by the following decade there were over 500 acres (200 hectares) of vineyard in the country. The establishment of the renowned Lake's Folly in 1963 is considered the first new vineyard planted here in the 20th Century and today there are over 150 wineries in the Hunter Valley.
