Gozo, a Protected Designation of Origin (DOK) appellation in the Mediterranean, produces red, white, and rosé wines on Malta's sister island. Despite its small size of 67 square kilometers, Gozo has a rich winemaking history dating back to 500 BC, evidenced by ancient wine vessels discovered recently. The island's few wine producers benefit from an undulating north coast landscape, offering suitable microclimates shielded from prevailing winds and excess ocean salinity. Gozo's vineyards, maturing up to a week later than those on the main island, thrive in cooler temperatures, contributing to the unique character of its wines.
