Chateau Morrisette Merlot is made with grapes grown in Nelson County, Virginia. The state has a varied topographical terroir ranging from mountains, valleys, and the complex Atlantic coastline which forms its eastern boundary. Upon completion of fermentation, the wine is typically aged in a combination of French, Hungarian, and American oak for approximately 10 months to gain notes of vanilla and cinnamon that perfectly complement the plummy fruit.
NOTES FROM VINOVOSS SOMMELIER
Chateau Morrisette Merlot has a medium to deep ruby color. The nose shows a moderate level of intensity with aromas of fresh blackberries and plums, accompanied by subtle hints of vanilla and cinnamon spice indicative of oak maturation. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with chalky tannins and a lean texture, supported by crisp acidity. The flavors of dark fruits persist, complemented by notes of chocolate and spice. The finish is only moderate in length but satisfying, with a subtle vegetal component.

ORIGINS

Region: Virginia
Virginia is a state in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern regions of the United States. It is bordered by Maryland, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia to the south and west; Pennsylvania to the north; and Delaware to the east. With a long history of winemaking, Virginia is now one of the most exciting wine regions in the US.
Virginia has a long history of winemaking, dating back to the early 1600s when the first vines were planted by English settlers. The state was once home to the largest wine-producing region in the US, but Prohibition in the 1920s put an end to the industry. In the late 20th century, the industry began to revive, and today Virginia is home to over 300 wineries.
