Wine tannin gives wine its textural mouthfeel and astringency. Tannin is a natural compound found in grape skins, seeds, and stems. In Spanish, "brutal" translates to "intense," and this wine embodies such a creative and experimental character that one could label it intensely avant-garde. The renowned Barcelona wine bar, "Brutal," shares the same name purely by coincidence; it's not an homage. The relatively recent Rösler grape variety (1960) is valued in Burgenland for its dark color and resilience to frost and rot, especially in challenging years. Thriving in limestone soil and suitable for organic cultivation, this robust rosé, crafted by Steffi and Eduard Tscheppe-Eselböck from the ancient Josephine vine, boasts an infernal, forceful bouquet. The grapes undergo a few hours of maceration and then age in 500-liter Tonneaux for eight months. Untreated, unfiltered, and without additional sulfur, "Brutal" presents a pure, clear flavor profile, surprisingly not as intense as its name suggests, but rather exuding incredible drinking pleasure. It introduces a distinct dimension, indeed brutally good.
