Located in Vosne-Romanée at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Domaine Michel Gros traces its roots back to 1830, when the first member of the Gros family settled there and established the domaine. Their Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits vineyard boasts an average vine age of 35 years. Situated in Arcenant, this vineyard's revival began in the early 1970s, spearheaded by Jean Gros, the father of the current generation. Positioned on a southeast-facing slope at an altitude of 360 to 420 meters, approximately 100 meters higher than the neighboring vineyards, it experiences slightly delayed harvests, about 8 days later than those in the Côte. The soil and subsoil feature three geological layers identical to those found 100 meters lower in the Côte de Beaune near Aloxe-Corton, imparting power, masculinity, and excellent aging potential to the wines. Following traditional Burgundian vinification, the wines are aged for the first six months in oak foudres in a centuries-old cellar beneath Jean Gros's apartments. Subsequently, they spend 12 months in barrels previously used for higher-ranked cuvées, enhancing complexity and character. This meticulous process contributes to the development of the wine's richness and depth, reflecting the domaine's commitment to crafting exceptional Burgundian wines.
