Established by Nicolas Ferrand in 2013, Domaine des Côtes Rousses began with a mere 1.5 hectares in Saint-Jean-de-la-Porte. Named after Champ Roux, the primary lieu-dit with russet-colored clay soils, the domaine has flourished over time. Now spanning 5.5 hectares, Ferrand's vineyards, except for Bergeron (Roussanne) in Montmélian and Roussette in Monthoux, adorn the steep slopes of Massif des Bauges, overlooking Combe de Savoie. Positioned at altitudes of 350 to 580 meters, all plots face south, boasting a density of 10,000 plants per hectare. The majority of Ferrand's vineyards host ancient vines, including local varietals like Mondeuse, Altesse, and Jacquère. Complementing these, he reclaimed plots of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon through the Combe de Savoie's nursery activity.
