Philip Togni's journey in winemaking began after studying geology in London and working as an explorer for Shell in various countries. His true passion for wine led him to Bordeaux, where he studied oenology under the renowned Emile Peynaud. Later, he worked at Chateau Lascombes in AOC Margaux and met his wife, Brigitta, who managed vineyards there. In the early '50s, they moved to California, eventually purchasing a four-hectare estate on Spring Mountain in Napa Valley. Despite challenging beginnings, Togni's wines gained acclaim, particularly after Robert Parker's reviews in the early '90s. Today, his daughter Lisa oversees the estate, maintaining the legacy of these elegant, long-lived wines, known for their natural fermentation and unique complexity.
