Selvapiana Vigneto Erchi is a flagship wine produced by Selvapiana, a renowned winery located in the Chianti Rufina appellation of Tuscany, Italy. Rufina is the smallest of all of the Chianti subzones. Local cooling breezes extend the ripening time providing a generosity of fruit that offsets the austere structure that Chianti can have in youth. This pure Sangiovese comes from a single farm that was planted just before the new millenium. The grapes recive a very long total vatting time to enhance the structure and the wines spend amost 18 months in oak, only 10% of which is new. The result is a foursquare structure with sandy tannins and lean acidity but equal opulence of tart cherry fruit. This wine needs at least 10 years to show its fill potential and it will add notes of leather and tobacco with time. Rufina is a must-try for any enthusiast of Italian wine and this is a premier example.
