Vermentino Nero
Vermentino Nero is a rare red grape variety native to the island of Sardinia
Vermentino Nero grapes a deep purple-red colour. The aroma is intense and complex, with notes of mature red fruit, spices and herbs. On the palate, it has a medium body and a balanced acidity, with flavours of ripe red fruits and a hint of spiciness.
Vermentino Nero is most widely grown in the island of Sardinia. It can also be found in other areas of Italy, such as Tuscany, Sicily and Puglia, as well as in the south of France and other parts of the Mediterranean. Vermentino Nero pairs well with a variety of dishes, from grilled seafood and roasted vegetables to risotto and pasta. It also pairs well with soft cheeses, cured meats and spicy dishes.
Vermentino Nero is one of the oldest grape varieties in the world, but it was nearly extinct in the 1980s.
