Stark-Condé

Stark-Condé is a wine producer with an estate neighbouring Jonkershoek National Park. Its name honours Hans’ mother, Franziska Stark, the first of the family to settle in Stellenbosch, and José Conde’s father. Self-taught winemaker José Conde grew up in Independence, Missouri, and first tried winemaking in 2000, experimenting with his favourite grape, Cabernet Sauvignon. Eighty percent of the estate remains rugged virgin terrain with indigenous plants, and its flora mirrors the biodiversity of the neighbouring park. Farming is organic, while pressed juice ferments with natural yeasts in open-top tanks, with manual punchdowns. The red wines then age for up to 22 months in French oak barrels and are mostly bottled without fining or filtration. Its wines include Cabernet Sauvignon.
