The Colombini family has owned lands in Montalcino since 1352 and Fattoria dei Barbi since the late 18th century. Pio Colombini produced the estate's earliest bottles of Brunello preserved in the cellar. The estate has produced Brunello since 1892 and was the first to export it to Europe, America, and Asia. Cantina dei Barbi opened to the public in the 1950s. Following Giovanni Colombini's death in 1976, the estate was led by his daughter Francesca and then his grandson Stefano Cinelli Colombini, the owner.

The property covers 350 hectares of fields and vineyards in southern Tuscany. The villa dei Podernovi, home to the cellar and estate facilities, was brought into the family as a dowry by Elina Padelletti. Grapes vinified for the estate's sulfite-free range include Vermentino, Ciliegiolo, and Sangiovese. The wine rests and ages for years in large Slavonian oak casks, and its wines include Brunello.
On VinoVoss, Fattoria dei Barbi has 2 wines in stock: 2 red. Their average rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 545 ratings.
