Giovanni Neri founded Casanova di Neri in 1971. In 1977, the winery bottled its first wine, a Rosso di Montalcino named Vino Rosso dai vigneti di Brunello, and produced its first Brunello di Montalcino in 1978. Giacomo Neri began handling agronomy and enology with his father in 1986 and became owner in 1991. In 2012, Giacomo's eldest son Giovanni joined as head of agronomy and enology with his father, and Gianlorenzo began working alongside his brother and father in 2017.

In 1981, Giovanni Neri acquired the Cerretalto vineyard along the banks of the Asso River. The estate acquired the Pietradonice plot in 1994 and the 7-hectare Tocci vineyard in 2018, and farming uses massal selection of Sangiovese Grosso from the Cerretalto vineyard. Inaugurated in autumn 2005, the winery is built almost entirely into the hill and oriented north, with natural and constant temperature and humidity inside. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled open truncated-cone vats of steel and wood, and its wines include Brunello Tenuta Nuova.
