Elegant and harmonious red and black fruits, subtle hints of black tea and vanilla bean unfold the senses. Swirling reveals a full bodied tapestry of bold berries, black currents, and a piercing floral nuance, evoking the essence of a ripe blackberry bush. The mouthfeel is densely fruit-forward, with sleek tannins yielding to a vibrant finish. Blackberry, plum skin, rich chocolate, and dried herbs linger, a cohesive blend of flavors.

What the web is saying

Matthews Claret is praised for its rich, full-bodied profile with notes of blackberry, plum, and vanilla. It features a smooth, velvety texture and well-integrated tannins. While some find it a great value with a harmonious blend, others feel it falls short for the price. The wine is versatile, pairing well with various dishes, and is noted for its elegant oak finish and lingering spice.

Voss Experts4.5

Matthews Claret is a full-bodied red wine with a deep garnet hue. On the nose, it offers an inviting aroma of blackberry, cassis and hints of cocoa. On the palate, it is full-bodied with a velvety texture and a long finish. The tannins are well-integrated, creating a pleasant balance between the concentrated fruit and the structure. This is a well-crafted claret that will continue to develop and evolve over time. Enjoy now or cellar for up to 10 years.
