Voss Expert4.5/5

Voss Expert tasting note

Chalmers Col Fondo presents a hazy, straw-hued appearance, indicative of its traditional method production. The nose is an intricate tapestry of green apple, fresh bread dough, and a whisper of white flowers, underscored by a subtle yeasty complexity. On the palate, it unfolds with a vibrant mousse and a crisp, mineral-driven core, punctuated by notes of lemon zest and almond skin. The finish is brisk and refreshing, with a lingering saline edge that speaks to its Italian heritage. This sparkling wine exemplifies the Col Fondo style, offering a delightful balance of rustic charm and refined elegance.

Chalmers Col Fondo is a sparkling wine crafted using the traditional method of secondary fermentation in the bottle, known as 'col fondo.' This Italian-style wine is produced from grapes grown in the Chalmers family vineyards, located in the Heathcote region of Victoria, Australia. The climate here is characterized by warm days and cool nights, which help maintain acidity while allowing full ripeness. The wine is unfiltered, resulting in a cloudy appearance and a natural sediment. It offers a fresh, crisp profile with notes of citrus and a subtle yeastiness, intended for those who appreciate a rustic, authentic sparkling experience.
