Alois Lageder Schiava presents a delicate ruby hue, characteristic of this varietal from Alto Adige. The nose is a fragrant bouquet of wild strawberries, red currants, and a hint of rose petal, underscored by a subtle earthiness. On the palate, it is light-bodied yet vibrant, with a silky texture and a refreshing acidity that enhances its finesse. The tannins are gentle, allowing the purity of fruit to shine through, leading to a clean, mineral-driven finish. This Schiava exemplifies the elegance and drinkability of the region, making it an ideal pairing for charcuterie or light pasta dishes.

We are 50+ wine professionals (sommeliers, buyers, MW candidates) across the US, UK, France, Greece, Italy, and beyond. We review wines via blind tastings with a standardized rubric, using both 100-point and 5-star scales.

Alois Lageder Schiava is a light-bodied red wine crafted from the Schiava grape variety, native to the Alto Adige region in northern Italy. The vineyards benefit from a cool alpine climate, which helps preserve the grape's natural acidity and delicate aromatics. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks to maintain freshness and purity of fruit. This wine is characterized by its bright red berry flavors, subtle floral notes, and a hint of spice. It is designed for early consumption, offering an approachable and refreshing style that pairs well with a variety of dishes.
