Verrazzano’s castle cellars date back to the 16th century and hold selections of vintage wines dating back to 1924. Located in Greve in Chianti between Florence and Siena, the 230-hectare estate includes 52 hectares of vineyards in Chianti Classico, situated between 260 and 420 meters above sea level on stony, limestone-rich soil. The vineyards are cultivated organically, employing organic fertilization, grass cover-cropping, and training by horizontal spurred cordon set at 60 cm from ground level and guyot systems. Yields are limited to approximately 60 quintals per hectare, and harvesting is done exclusively by hand. Grapes grown are Sangiovese, Merlot, Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Colorino, Trebbiano Toscano, Traminer, and Malvasia lunga del Chianti. Immediately after crushing, grapes ferment in small lots at controlled temperatures. Chianti and Chianti Classico Riserva age in 3-year-old oak casks of 30 hectoliters, while Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Sassello and Supertuscan Bottiglia Particolare age in new Allier and Vosges barriques. Its wines include Verrazzano Chianti Classico Riserva, Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Sassello, and Bottiglia Particolare.
