Thorn-Clarke is a Barossa wine producer whose story began with David and Cheryl Clarke’s purchase of Kabininge, near Tanunda, in 1987, followed by help from Cheryl’s father, Ron Thorn, and her brothers in improving the vineyard, before winemaking began with small batches of Shiraz in the 1998 vintage. Cheryl Clarke and Sam Clarke are joint proprietors, while Peter Kelly is chief winemaker. The Thorn-Clarke family are custodians of 240 hectares of vineyard, including holdings in some of the most southerly and northerly parts of the Barossa region. Across the Barossa and Eden Valley, varied soils contribute different characteristics to the wines, with grape varieties matched to the conditions.
