Elderton's vineyard was first planted in Nuriootpa in 1894 by the Scholz family. Samuel Elderton Tolley bought the estate in 1916 and named it Elderton. Cameron and Allister Ashmead took over the business in 2003, running it alongside Jules and Rebecca Ashmead, with Jules serving as a winemaker. In 2024, Ashmead Family Vintners was established as the overarching entity responsible for winemaking and marketing.

The vineyards and winery are certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, focusing on long term sustainable production, low yields, low irrigation, and minimal inputs. The Nuriootpa Vineyard sits at 275m elevation with alluvial river silt soils over red and brown clays with limestone beneath. Greenock Vineyard, acquired after vintage 2010, grows Shiraz, Grenache, Carignan, Mataro, and Cinsault. Mengler Hill Vineyard, situated around 500m elevation, was purchased in 2023. Elderton's wines include Command Shiraz and Ashmead Cabernet Sauvignon.
On VinoVoss, Elderton has 2 wines in stock: 2 red. Their average rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 45 ratings.
