At Tenuta di Lilliano, records of Borgo di Lilliano date to the Middle Ages when it was a fortified complex. The Ruspoli Berlingieri family purchased the estate in 1920. Bottling and wine sales began in 1958 under Princess Eleonora Ruspoli Berlingieri, who collaborated with Giulio Gambelli to make the first vintage of Chianti Classico Lilliano that year. Co-owner Giulio Ruspoli has managed the estate since 1989, and winemaker Lorenzo Landi selects the wines.

The Le Piagge vineyard is planted to Sangiovese at approximately 300 meters above sea level with south exposure, Casina Sopra Strada contains Sangiovese and Colorino, and Vigna Catena is planted to Merlot. The winemaking cellar, built in 1978, houses concrete tanks and steel containers, and temperature-controlled fermentation and maceration take about 20 days in concrete tanks. In the historic cellar, Chianti Classico Riserva ages in large oak casks, Gran Selezione in tonneaux, and Super Tuscans in barriques. Its wines include vintage Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva, Gran Selezione, and Super Tuscans.
