Andrew James Symington arrived in Portugal in 1882 and set up a small port shipping operation under his own name. In 1912, he became a partner in Dow's and made Quinta do Bomfim his Douro family home. The Symingtons became the sole owners of both Dow's and Warre's in 1961, acquired W & J Graham & Co in 1970, and acquired Quinta do Vesuvio in 1989. Ten family members work across the family business.

In the Douro Valley, the business holds 2,255 hectares across 26 Quintas, with 1,024 hectares under vine. Vines are planted on steep hillside terraces, and much of the vineyard labor is done by hand. In 1998, Symington introduced the first modern treading lagar, which is used across four estate wineries.
On VinoVoss, Symington has 1 wine in stock: 1 white. Their average rating is 3.7 out of 5 from 3 ratings.
