Selvapiana was originally a medieval watch tower on the river Sieve constructed to defend Florence on its northeast border. In 1827, Michele Giuntini, a banker, acquired the property. Francesco Giuntini, representing the fifth generation of his family, managed the estate from 1957 to 1997, and in 1978, he hired consultant enologist Franco Bernabei. Since 1997, the estate has been run by Francesco Giuntini's adopted children, Federico and Silvia.

Organic farming was introduced at the Fornace vineyard in 1990 and later extended to all vineyards and olive groves, and Selvapiana holds certified organic status. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and concrete casks. Fermentation has been carried out without selected yeasts since 1992, and fermentation combined with maceration lasts at least 30 days. Its wines include the single-vineyard Chianti Rufina Riserva Vigneto Bucerchiale, first produced in 1979.
On VinoVoss, Selvapiana has 6 wines in stock: 5 red, 1 white. Their average rating is 3.9 out of 5 from 361 ratings.
