Quinta do Vesúvio's recorded history dates to 1565. Previously known as Quinta das Figueiras, the estate was purchased in 1823 by António Bernardo Ferreira, who planted vines that year.

Located in Douro Superior, 120 km east of Porto and 45 km from the Spanish border, the estate spans 326 hectares, with 133 hectares planted to vine. Altitudes range from 130 meters by the river up to 530 meters. Soils are mostly schist with low amounts of organic matter, alongside granite outcrops. Vintage Ports are produced exclusively by treading grapes by foot in granite lagares, while Douro DOC wines are produced at Adega do Ataíde. Its wines include Quinta do Vesúvio, Pombal do Vesúvio, Comboio do Vesúvio, Quinta do Vesúvio Vintage Port, and Capela do Vesúvio.
