Le Grand Noir was founded in 2005 by Hugh Ryman, Robert Joseph and Kevin Shaw, and makes wine from grapes grown in the Minervois region. Ryman has made wine in Bordeaux, Spain, Australia and South America, while Joseph is a former wine critic and author and Shaw is a graphic designer. They work with winemaker Eric Lacuve.

In its growing region, altitudes range from 50 to 300 metres, while winds from the ocean and hills help prevent the fruit from baking in the sun. The varied soils and altitudes allow Le Grand Noir to grow Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Syrah, Viognier and Grenache. Its wines are made with a light touch and have no obvious oak flavour. Every bottle carries an HVE sustainability stamp and a Vegan symbol indicating that no animal products were used in making the wine.
On VinoVoss, Le Grand Noir has 3 wines in stock: 2 red, 1 rosé. Their average rating is 3.6 out of 5 from 319 ratings.
