La Gerla was founded in 1976. In 1997, Sergio Rossi decided to plant additional vineyards in Castelnuovo dell'Abate.

The estate includes 11.5 hectares of vineyards in Canalicchio and Castelnuovo dell'Abate in the municipality of Montalcino. The Canalicchio area includes 6 hectares of vineyards facing northeast and east, which were planted in parts in 1965, 1982, and 2022. The Canalicchio area also includes La Vigna Gli Angeli, measuring slightly over two hectares. Exclusively Sangiovese grosso (known locally as Brunello) is cultivated in the Canalicchio vineyard. In Castelnuovo dell'Abate, near the abbey of Sant'Antimo, La Gerla has 5.5 hectares of vineyards. Harvesting is conducted strictly by hand and typically takes place at the end of September following cluster selection. Grapes are transported to the winery in 15 kg crates to prevent compression.
On VinoVoss, La Gerla has 4 wines in stock: 4 red. Their average rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 78 ratings.
