Il Borro is a wine estate in Valdarno, discovered by Ferruccio Ferragamo during a hunt in 1985, when it belonged to Duke Amedeo of Aosta. He acquired the estate in 1993, beginning restoration of its medieval hamlet and vineyards. In 1995, he and his son Salvatore began reviving its winemaking tradition. The cellar was rebuilt in 2000, followed by an underground barrique cellar in 2004. Salvatore co-founded the Valdarno di Sopra DOC appellation and its Consortium for Protection in 2011 and was appointed to the consortium’s Board of Directors in 2022.

Certified organic since 2015, the estate uses green manure and carefully selected fertilisation processes. Its winemaking combines Sangiovese with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, while harvesting takes place by hand between August and October. Its wines include Il Borro and Chardonnay, which matures for 10 months in clayver, acacia and oak barriques, and Alma vessels made of oak and ceramic.
