Hewitson

Dean Hewitson is the owner and winemaker of the Hewitson Estate. In 1997, Baby Bush Mourvèdre was struck from Old Garden Mother Vines, and the first Hewitson vintage of Old Garden Mourvèdre was in 1998.

Hewitson lies along the banks of the Para River on Seppeltsfield Road in the Barossa Valley. Its vineyards include The Old Garden Mourvèdre vineyard, which was planted in 1853 by Friedrich Koch and consists of eight rows of dry grown pre-phylloxera vines. The winery employs minimalist intervention winemaking and uses only French oak, and its wines include the BARREL 1853 Shiraz Mourvèdre blend, which is created from selected barrels of the Old Garden and Monopole Vineyards.
