Leonetti Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Rich, full-bodied wine with a cohesive balance of flavors, highlighting a detailed interplay of black fruit notes, oak, and leather, with understated undertones of red fruits, all wrapped in a smooth, lingering finish.

Leonetti's reputation has been somewhat diminished by its recent performance. The winemaker's bold prediction about eastern Washington's Merlot potential has been largely vindicated, but the reality is that Walla Walla reds, featuring Leonetti's, are overly sweet and lacking in nuance. The wines are also excessively expensive. A recent tasting revealed significant inconsistencies in the winemaker's approach, and the prices are excessively high.

Sharing a fine wine with a dear friend in Mexico was a delightful experience. The young wine showed a noticeable strength of wood, but its full potential was revealed over time. The intense, concentrated layers were a testament to the wine's full bodied character. The aromatic profile was notably impressive, with a captivating nose that included flavors of oak, blackberry, tobacco, licorice, and baking spice. As the wine aged, its finesse and profoundness became more pronounced, with savory herbs adding a gratifying finish.
