The rich graphite surprised me. Earthy undertones and intense fruit suggestions were present, but the tannins were a bit too assertive for my taste. I generally prefer Burgundy, but this wine was a strong contender. It held up well to a hearty meal, such as Thanksgiving dinner, but I still prefer it to many California merlot and cabernet sauvignon.
