Stanton Vineyards launched its label in 1999 with Cabernet Sauvignon from Oakville vines. The Stanton family has grown and sold grapes in Napa Valley since 1947, when Jesse Stanton bought a 100-acre vineyard in Yountville. Winemaker Dave Phinney joined the team for the 2002 vintage, and the family introduced its first Petite Sirah vintage in 2004.

The family farms 75 acres directly across three Napa Valley locations: Oakville, Mills Lane in St. Helena, and JB Ranch in St. Helena. John Stanton planted the 33-acre Oakville vineyard in 1971 on gravelly, sandy clay and loam soils, with two acres supplying the Stanton Vineyard label. Grapes grown across the properties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Petite Sirah, and Mourvedre. Production totals about 800 cases, including Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah.
