The parcel that became Hewitt Vineyard was first planted in 1880 by Dennis Hanrahan, bordering Gustave Niebaum’s Inglenook. In 1992, Bill Hewitt replanted the vineyard to Cabernet Sauvignon clones 4, 7, and 8 on five rootstocks. Tom Rinaldi served as the founding winemaker.

The estate encompasses over 58 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon vines in Rutherford. Grapes are hand-sorted twice, first as whole clusters and then as individual berries after de-stemming. Fermentation begins with a two to five-day cold soak followed by extended skin contact. The wine is aged in French oak barrels with four rackings throughout aging and is bottled without fining. Its wines include Hewitt Cabernet Sauvignon, whose inaugural release was the 2001 vintage.
