Grattamacco was founded in 1977 as the second producer winery to be established in Bolgheri, when Piermario Meletti Cavallari took over the estate. The winery released its first vintage in 1982, and following the establishment of the DOC regulations, Grattamacco was the first winery to bottle a Bolgheri Rosso in 1994. Meletti Cavallari sold the company to Claudio Tipa in 2002.

The estate's first Vermentino vineyard on the hills of Bolgheri was planted in 1986, and grapes grown are Sangiovese, Vermentino, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Vineyard work is conducted by hand with minimal intervention, and bush-trained (alberello) training for Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc was introduced in 2004. Producing under the Bolgheri, Bolgheri Superiore, and Toscana IGT appellations, its wines include Bolgheri Superiore.
On VinoVoss, Grattamacco has 3 wines in stock: 2 red, 1 white. Their average rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 157 ratings.
