Francisco Barona studied viticulture and enology in Bordeaux, obtaining BTS VO and DNO titles, and worked in wineries in France, USA, and South Africa before returning to Ribera del Duero in 2009. In 2010, Barona purchased five old-vine plots across three villages, and in 2021, Francisco Barona built his own winery designed entirely by himself.

Vineyard soils maintain plant cover without plowing during autumn, winter, and spring, and the grapes grown are Tinto Fino, Garnacha, Valenciana, Albilla, and Jaen. Grapes are harvested by variety in 12-kilogram crates and fed into tanks by gravity. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts, without acidity adjusters or other enological additives. Malolactic fermentation occurs in new French oak barrels, followed by 12 to 20 months of aging in new French oak underground at a depth of 8 meters. Finally, wines are bottled without fining or filtration, and its wines include Francisco Barona.
