The story of Dow's began in 1798, when Portuguese merchant Bruno da Silva travelled to London. In 1862, his son John da Silva went into partnership with Frederick William Cosens to establish Silva & Cosens, which George Warre joined in 1868. In 1877, Silva & Cosens merged with Dow & Co and adopted the name Dow's. Andrew James Symington became a partner in Dow's in 1912, and since 1912, five generations of Symington winemakers have lived and worked at Dow’s vineyards at Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira.

Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira is located in the Douro Superior, where grapes are treaded in robotic lagares.
