Domaine Alain Mathias is a family-owned domaine founded in 1982 by Alain Mathias. The domaine is certified Organic (AB), with the 2013 harvest being the first to be certified.

The estate encompasses 13 hectares. Its grape varieties are Chardonnay for white wines from Chablis and the Tonnerrois, and Pinot Noir for red wines grown on the hillsides of Epineuil. Full scratching replaces chemical weeding, while grassing and soil work limit erosion, and natural and lunar cycles are incorporated into vineyard and winemaking practices. Winemaking takes place in an Epineuil cellar built three-quarters underground in a former quarry, where gravity flow and nitrogen gas protect must and wine during transfers. The wines are aged for an average of 18 months, and barrels are complemented with stoneware and terracotta jars and eggs.
