In 1978, William, Nancy, and David Morrisette planted the first vines of Chateau Morrisette. David Morrisette graduated from Mississippi State University's first class in enology and viticulture and served as the winery's first official winemaker. The first commercial wines under the Chateau Morrisette Winery label were produced in 1982. In 1999, the Morrisettes expanded and modernized the winery, including a new production facility and hospitality center.

Over a 20-year period, the Morrisettes acquired approximately 1,000 acres of land in the rural Virginia mountains. The winery utilizes production from more than 150 acres of vineyards either on-site or from Virginia growers. It has a stainless steel capacity of approximately 180,000 gallons with an additional 50,000-gallon capacity in French and American oak. Annual wine production surpasses 60,000 cases per year, and its wines include Cabernet Sauvignon, Archival XII, Black Dog, Sweet Mountain Laurel, and Blackberry.
On VinoVoss, Chateau Morrisette has 4 wines in stock: 2 white, 2 dessert. Their average rating is 3.6 out of 5 from 12 ratings.
