Cartuxa

Cartuxa is a winery at Quinta de Valbom. Carlos Maria promoted winegrowing and winemaking, which his grandson Vasco Maria Eugénio de Almeida later revitalized. In 1963, Vasco created the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation and donated all his assets to it.

The foundation has more than 600 hectares of vineyards, where each plot is tended individually throughout the year according to vine age, grape variety or soil characteristics, with its intended wine in mind. The Cartuxa Monte de Pinheiros winery has modern technology and can receive all the grapes produced in the vineyards, while the Cartuxa winery at Quinta de Valbom is one of the ageing facilities for the foundation’s wines. Cartuxa’s wines include Monte de Pinheiros, Foral de Évora, Vinho de Talha, Cartuxa Espumante, Scala Coeli and Pêra-Manca.
