Capanna was founded in 1957 by Giuseppe Cencioni, who was one of the 25 founders of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino, and began bottling in the 1960s. The cellar is in an 18th-century structure.

Located in northern Montalcino, approximately 30 km south of Siena, the 25 hectares of vineyards lie within a 2 km radius of the winery in the Montosoli area. At 250 to 300 meters altitude on clayey galestro and skeleton-rich soils, vines are trained to bilateral spurred cordons, and all soils receive grassing and green manuring, with organic management and certification from 2024. Grapes grown are Sangiovese (about 80%), Moscato Bianco (about 2.5 ha), Merlot (about 1 ha), and Pinot Grigio (about 4,000 m2). Grape reception includes optical berry sorting, and Sangiovese grapes ferment in traditional truncated-conical oak vats. Automated temperature control and pumping over were introduced in 1988, with aging in 10 to 30 hl Slavonian oak barrels. Its wines include Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Rosso di Montalcino DOC, Sant’Antimo DOC, and Moscadello di Montalcino DOC.
On VinoVoss, Capanna has 5 wines in stock: 4 red, 1 white. Their average rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 159 ratings.
