Cacchiano was built in the 10th century by the Ricasoli family on the remains of a Roman settlement; it withstood an Aragonese siege in 1452 and suffered serious damage in 1478. At the end of the 1500s, following the war between Florence and Siena, it was converted into an agricultural villa-farm. In 1924, Luigi Ricasoli-Firidolfi was a founding member of the Consorzio del Vino Chianti Classico. In 1967, Giovanni's father Alberto initiated a major cellar restructuring and modernization. Owner Giovanni Ricasoli-Firidolfi began his wine venture in 1983.

The estate is located in Cacchiano, municipality of Gaiole in Chianti, province of Siena, within the Gaiole Additional Geographical Unit (UGA) of Chianti Classico. Its 200 hectares total include 36 hectares of vineyards on the Monti in Chianti plateau between 340 and 490 meters altitude with prevailing southern exposure. Silty-clay soils feature marly limestone and calcareous sandstone debris. Grapes grown are Sangiovese, Colorino, Malvasia Nera, Malvasia Bianca, Canaiolo, and Merlot. Wines age in oak casks and barriques at a naturally constant temperature around 14 °C behind nearly 2-meter thick cellar walls.
On VinoVoss, Cacchiano has 3 wines in stock: 3 red. Their average rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 34 ratings.
