Birichino was founded in Santa Cruz in 2008 by Alex Krause and John Locke. The character of its first wine, Malvasia Bianca, inspired its name.

Besson's Home Ranch has Zinfandel planted in 1922 alongside Pinot, while Lilo Vineyard sits on a south-facing slope at 300 metres in the Santa Cruz Mountains. In the cellar, Birichino prefers minimal intervention, using native fermentations and stainless or neutral barrels. It keeps racking and fining to a minimum and avoids filtration when possible. Its wines include Vin Gris, in which Cinsault is complemented by George Besson's Grenache and Mourvèdre from ungrafted vines in the sands of the Sacramento River Delta.
On VinoVoss, Birichino has 7 wines in stock: 4 red, 2 white, 1 sparkling. Their average rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 166 ratings.
