El Coco has made its arrival, showcasing dark fruits, rich texture, and brooding structure that have lingered in the cellar since its debut six years ago. Adorned with a spooky boogeyman label inspired by Francisco Goya's 18th-century art, this wine has become a favorite. It embodies the decadent 'Red Blend' style, contributing to Napa's popularity. The eight-acre heritage vineyard, initially planted by George Belden Crane in the 1800s, boasts some of California's oldest Zinfandel vines. In 2012, Dave Phinney, along with friends, founded The Crane Assembly to preserve this viticultural treasure. El Coco opens with dark fruit aromatics, leading to a layered, rich palate marked by ripe plum, morel, and chocolate notes. With decanting, its hidden nuances and complexity emerge.
