Sanctuary Vineyards Double Barrel

Stellar North Carolina wine, revealing a unique blend of Tannat and Petite Verdot. The fruit-forward profile is highlighted by mild notes of blackberries, plum, and leather, but a wisp of smoke and oak adds depth. The mouthfeel is silky smooth, with a gentle tactile quality that rests on the palate. A perfect pairing for red meat, primarily beef, but also easy on its own. The tannins are substantial, yet balanced, and the flavor is richly complex, with multiple layers of expression. A true benchmark for North Carolina wines, capable of standing toe-to-toe with any red from around the world.

I'm delighted with this local wine, featuring Tannat and Petite Verdot. This one is a bit more understated than the 2015 vintage, but it still delivers a rich, mellow feel with a refined mouthfeel. The nose reveals a blend of oak, elegant spice, and concentrated fruit, even as the tasting offers the Petit Verdot's gentle influence on the Tannat. The follow through is dark and fruity, with a suggestion of plum and blackberry. Overall, a well-balanced and satisfying wine.

Full bodied and intense wine with a pronounced dryness. The nose is driven by by dense fruit, with gentle earthy hints and a nuance of black raspberry.
