This Barbera d'Alba presents a deep ruby hue, indicative of its vibrant character. The nose is a bouquet of ripe red cherries and plums, interwoven with subtle hints of anise and dried herbs, showcasing the varietal's expressive nature. On the palate, it reveals a medium-bodied structure with bright acidity, hallmark of the region, balancing the lush fruit core. Fine-grained tannins provide a polished texture, leading to a lingering finish marked by nuances of earth and a whisper of spice. This wine exemplifies the elegance and depth typical of Piedmont's esteemed Barbera offerings.

We are 50+ wine professionals (sommeliers, buyers, MW candidates) across the US, UK, France, Greece, Italy, and beyond. We review wines via blind tastings with a standardized rubric, using both 100-point and 5-star scales.

Renzo Castella Barbera d'Alba is crafted from Barbera grapes grown in the rolling hills of the Alba region in Piedmont, Italy. The vineyard benefits from a continental climate, with warm days and cool nights that enhance the grape's natural acidity. This wine undergoes fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve its fresh fruit character, followed by a brief aging period in oak barrels to add subtle complexity. The result is a medium-bodied wine with vibrant red fruit flavors, balanced acidity, and a smooth finish, ideal for enjoying with a variety of dishes.
