The St-Julien from Masseto, a reliable and aging Bordeaux, showed promising signs of improvement with a decade in bottle. The nose was shaped by by concentrated fruit, with blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum, alongside subtle flavors of tobacco and oak. The high bracing quality and astringent tannins provided a firm foundation, even as the wine's all around backbone remained intact.
