Casa Piena Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

The 2012 vintage has been a consistent performer, and I've found myself revisiting it again. The second bottle/review is a testament to the enduring quality of this wine. It's a reminder that, despite the passage of time, some wines truly stand the test of time. The decision to revisit this particular bottle was not taken lightly, and I'm pleased to report that it still holds up remarkably well. The pairing with homemade tomato sauce and meatballs was a stroke of genius, and the long, lean legs of the wine only added to its complexity. The finish, meanwhile not overly complex, was still pleasing and well-balanced. I've decided that this wine is best suited for those who appreciate a dry, balanced style. It's an 8-10, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, long-term investment.

Well-balanced red fruit and mineral profile is present, but the generally quality is somewhat compromised by the price point.

Symphony of floral and fruit notes on the nose, with expressive layers of red and black fruit, including currant, cherry, and blackberry. A elegant suggestion of cigar and tobacco adds nuance and complexity, whereas velvet tannins provide backbone and evenness the fruit's intensity. A harmonious and well-crafted wine, with nothing out of place in its seamless integration of layers and textures.
