Vieux Château Certan was founded at the beginning of the 16th century when the Demay family settled there coming from Scotland. Later in its history, it was mentioned in 1785 on the Belleyme map under the name Sertan. In 1858, Charles de Bousquet acquired Vieux Château Certan and is responsible for the current appearance of the buildings, and in 1924, the estate was purchased by wine merchant Georges Thienpont, establishing the family in the Bordeaux region. The estate consists of 14 hectares in a single block, and the vineyard is divided into 23 plots managed independently. The average age of the vineyard is 50 years.
