V. Vineyards is a wine producer established by Gina and Steve Viets on Sonoma County’s Spring Mountain. After purchasing a Sonoma home, they discovered the property had been a vineyard in the late 1800s, inspiring them to establish V. Vineyards. The vineyard was planted in 2007; Gina and Steve also met Jean Hoefliger when selecting a consulting winemaker. At 1,800 feet in the Mayacamas range, the vineyard has well-drained volcanic soils and grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Vines are individually tended using sustainable practices, with limited irrigation to encourage deep roots. Production is under 1,000 cases annually, with small-lot wines fermented using natural yeast in 60-gallon French oak barrels. These wines receive 30–45 days of skin contact and 22–29 months in 80% new French oak, remaining unfined and unfiltered. Its wines include single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.
