Chateau Souverain is a winery whose origins lie in Lee Stewart's 1943 purchase of thirty acres and an old winery on Howell Mountain in Napa Valley. The first harvest followed in 1944, when Lee named the winery Chateau Souverain, a name suggested by his daughter as a play on the French word for “sovereign.” After the winery moved to Sonoma's Alexander Valley in 1973, Stewart retired as winemaker in 1980. Ed Killian joined as associate winemaker from Lambert Bridge Winery in Dry Creek Valley in 1992, becoming head winemaker in May 1996. Under his stewardship, it moved to the historic Asti winery in 2006.

Killian also produces single-varietal wines representing Sonoma County's Alexander Valley and North Coast appellations.
On VinoVoss, Chateau Souverain has 5 wines in stock: 3 red, 2 white. Their average rating is 3.6 out of 5 from 760 ratings.
