Viticultural roots at Maximin Grünhaus date back to Roman times, and the estate served for nearly 1,000 years as an outer abbey for the Benedictine monastery of Sankt Maximin in Trier. Following secularization by Napoleon, it was sold at auction in 1811 for 84,700 Francs. In the 1850s, the monastery of St. Maximin was transformed into a castle complex in neo-Gothic, castle-romantic architectural style. Acquired in 1881 by Carl Ferdinand Freiherr von Stumm-Halberg, Grünhaus passed into the von Schubert family through the marriage of his daughter Ida to Conrad von Schubert.

The estate is located in the Ruwer valley (Ruwertal). In 1923, a fuder of 1921 Herrenberg Trockenbeerenauslese was auctioned for 100,000 Goldmark to the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. Wines are crafted using Grünhaus yeast strains and the estate's own oak casks.
On VinoVoss, Maximin Grünhaus has 3 wines in stock: 3 white. Their average rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 47 ratings.
