Halter Ranch is a wine estate along the westernmost boundaries of Paso Robles; in 2000, Hansjörg Wyss purchased 900 acres and named it after his mother, Alice Halter. In 2008, the winery received SIP Certification from the Central Coast Vineyard Team. Kevin Sass is its winemaker.

The 2,700-acre estate is surrounded by the Santa Lucia Mountain Range. Its 237 vineyard acres are certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers, and as of December 2024, Halter Ranch had a Regenerative Organic Certified vineyard. Twenty grape varieties are planted on the steepest south-facing slopes, reaching 1,950 feet. Across the vineyards, farming excludes synthetic pesticides and fertilizers while conserving soil and water. In the winery, a multi-level gravity flow system avoids pumping stems and seeds; the facility also includes 20,000 square feet of wine caves. Its wines include Ancestor, a flagship reserve Bordeaux-style blend whose first vintage was 2003.
