Gust is a wine project in the Petaluma Gap appellation, conceived by Megan Cline and Hilary Cline as an offshoot of Sonoma’s Cline Family Cellars. Their father Fred planted vineyards in the area in the late 1990s. He planted a dozen grape varieties, including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah.

When Megan and Hilary became involved, they focused on Catapult and Diamond Pile. Gust’s vineyards occupy a west-facing slope at the district’s eastern edge, where gusts meet Sonoma Mountain and are funneled south. The grapes receive full afternoon sun. Both vineyards have Sonoma Mountain series deep clay loam that requires minimal irrigation. Catapult is more sheltered and slightly warmer, and its Pinot Noir includes California heritage clones.
